For Translations

At Queer Language Services, we ensure that every translation is accurate, culturally sensitive, and meets the unique needs of your organization. Here’s how our process works:

  1. Collaborative document setup: We begin by creating a shared Google Document with your designated contact. This document includes a side-by-side table format, with LOTE on one side and English on the other for easy reference.

  2. Translations and Annotations: We translate all content and add notes to clarify certain expressions or phrases that may not translate literally from English to LOTE, or vice versa. Our notes may include the following --
    • Interpretive Adjustments: Highlighting expressions that don’t make sense when translated literally, along with our suggested alternatives.
    • Translation Confirmation: Encouraging your review to confirm that our translation captures the intended message accurately.
    • Clarification Requests: For parts of the English text that may have ambiguous meanings, we may ask the author or your organization for clarification or a paraphrased version.
  3. Responsive Revisions: We’re flexible in how we handle comments and revisions, working with you to determine the most effective way to address any feedback or adjust the translation to meet your expectations.
  4. Proofreading: A professional proofreader will review the document for quality and precision. This service is included in our initial quote, ensuring that your translation is polished and error-free.
  5. Proofreading: A professional proofreader will review the document for quality and precision. This service is included in our initial quote, ensuring that your translation is polished and error-free.
  6. Community Comprehension Check (Optional): To ensure the translation resonates with the intended audience, we offer an optional service where we present the LOTE translation to community members, gathering feedback on their understanding. This step allows us to refine the translation further based on audience insights.
